Pohutukawa is that tree that weathers all storms and clings to cliffs with ease. In the exposed wood we see why - the intense density of the grain shows us its slow growth and full character, tenacious and resilient. Pohutukawa reminds us of those that have not had it easy, but through the hardships have developed a deep strength of character.
From the elbow of a large pohutukawa I have kept a section of bark in the finished piece. This product has been carefully finished in environmentally friendly natural oils and waxes.
